The staff person at Sophie's was the most helpful, nicest person! Unfortunately the stock was rather low on the day I stopped in, so it was hard to get a sense of the store. They did have lots of Adirondack Yarn Co. yarns, and lots of various Cascade Yarns, including a nice selection of Madil Kid Seta. It also looked very comfortable, with many pattern books and a nice work space. I did not see any spinning supplies when I was there in October 2007.

Found exactly what I needed there; the clerk was very friendly and gave me a free pattern for my Rowan Cotton Glace, and a lunch recommendation! There are not many yarn shops in Center City; this shall be my "LYS" in Phila!

I love this place. Yarn is currently a bit low, but There are several yarns I will be going back to purchase in the next month or so.
Jen saved my life when I ran into a problem with a lace circular shawl I was knitting. She managed to show me what the pattern was saying. I actually was able to go home and finish the edging of the shawl.

Very spotty in terms of both stock and help: sometimes there is a good amount of yarn, other times it looks as if the store's going out of business; sometimes the staff is helpful, other times they don't seem to have the time of day. A disappointment as there aren't many yarn stores in downtown anymore.
