I LOVE PIKE PLACE - now that we have that covered - can I tell you how awesome it is that Pike pl has a yarn shop! I visited here a little while after they moved to their new location and it is very nice! :) they have big full windows to let in lots of light and shelves of yarn everywhere, but it still felt very open and spacious - not too claustrophobic. The people there were nice and very helpful - though I only had a limited amount of time and kinda grabbed a thing I needed and we kept moving.

The only thing I think I can say the place needed (at the time, haven't been back yet) was more comfy seating - They have so much space, I wish they had like a couch and a coffee table in there to induce staying longer (they had a few chairs...) Make a cozy corner to invite people to knit leisurely in the shop ya know? :) otherwise - a nice little gem for when I'm down that way in Seattle!

I hope the address is the new location - when I visited this summer, I mentioned to them that I had gone to the wrong address because I had seen it here, but I don't remember what the new address had been.

I went to the old address and the lady at the shop there was kind enough to tell me where to go. The new address is actually above what I think was the World Market sort of near Pike Place.

The shop was fantastic and had two cute doggies in residence.

I didn't know what I needed since my yarn trips are more like souvenir expeditions so I told her to show me something interesting and she sold me some great sock yarn that she said was harvested from area wool.

Overall - very pleasing to the eye, lots of colors, friendly staff.

Just so everyone knows, So Much Yarn has CLOSED from this Belltown location. I heard noises they were planning on moving, but if you go to their storefront in Belltown, you'll find a florist instead.

As a side note, I neither had great nor terrible service from the employees, but I also never bought yarn here. They did have a lot of novelty yarns which I'm personally not into, and the Cascade is cheaper elsewhere.

As a foreign visitor SMY was fun to find "like a little heaven" in the area, which gave strange vibes. I agree on the fact that the novelty yarn was the thing, but service was interested in me to make a conversation. Im in love with Noro, and got very hooked on the new colour of Kochoran, but it was just too hot that day to buy it, so I did not.

I visited this shop while in town for business, and I thought staff was friendly. There was no yarn that really made me want to buy it (in other words, the selection was mostly staples like Cascade and novelty yarns--lots of those). I'd go back because they were pleasant to me, and the atmosphere of the store was nice.

I have to say, I was on the fence about So Much Yarn for a while. Sure, they were close to my (former) work and their sales are awesome, but they're a little heavy on novelty yarn and (presumably because of Belltown's exorbitant rent) relatively expensive*. The ladies who run the shop were nice enough at the register if not particularly attentive, so I went there about once a week tobrowse and usually buy.

However, I had the worst retail experience of my life at SMY. I've worked a number of customer service jobs, so I have a fair perspective on good service and am reasonably forgiving, but I'm sensitive to extremes of good and bad: the woman trying (too obviously) to close a sale with me made all of the worst CS decisions possible to ensure that I would never shop there again, no matter how good the sales were. After asking a very specific question about a certain yarn for a proect of my own design, I was pressured, talked down to, and, most importantly in sales, not listened to. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she's more adept at handling less-experienced knitters (not trying to bring any of their customer base down, just saying that I more than know my way around a skein, which formed the basis of the poor service), but after spending hundreds of dollars at SMY and getting such poor treatment, I'm not going to shop there again.

*I compare all boutique yarn pricing toCascade 220, which is my default, basic worsted wool. Theirs is the most expensive in the city that I've found so far, but they also are located in one of the most expensive retail neighborhoods.

My doting boyfriend found this place while we were there vacationing, while he was out late with the boys. AND they had a sale on! We stopped in on the Saturday and they were having an annual inventory clear out sale, 30% off! Everyone seemed really nice and I found some great deals. I hear a rumor though that they are going to have to relocate?

I used to work within walking distance of So Much Yarn. I really miss my noon pilgrimages to their store! It is the perfect LYS. Not too big and not too small. A welcoming atmosphere. Comfortable chairs and a work table. They have a nice selection of fibers with nice mix of basics and the unusual. The staff are always patient and helpful.

Visited while on vacation in Seattle. Within walking distance of most hotels in downtown & Space Needle. Friendly & very helpful staff & good selection of yarn. I bought a nice selection of "souvenir" yarn!

Lovely people, lovely yarn, lovely little store. I especially like that they manage to stock full color ranges of a given yarn, and if you buy hanked yarn, they offer to wind it for you.

This is a nice store that I hardly ever make it to. Helpful staff, good selection of yarns.
