Shuttles, Spindles, and Skeins has a great selection of fibers. Don't expect ANY customer service. Just go in with a "Boulder" attitude, meaning you're just as cool as the employees think they are and you'll be fine. I've seen employees treat new knitters with little respect. For quality customer service and a great yarn selection drive 45 minutes to Denver and go to the Strawberry Tree on South Monaco.

terrible customer service. Don't expect much help at all if you are younger looking, I've been ignored many times so they can help an 'older' person. They do have a big selection of yarns and spinning supplies, but like I said, customer service sucks.
Mew Mews yarn in Louisville is MUCH nicer, small store but the owner is friendly and always willing to help you.

wow! I have to comment as the two previous are so negative. I love shuttles, I have shopped on a busy sale day and been treated like the only costumer in the store. I am an independent shopper and tend not to have many questions but have always found staff helpful when needed. The store has every thing and lots of it. The best place in the area for spinning classes as well. I highly recommend Shuttles to everyone .

Shuttles, Spindles & Skeins is AMAZING!!! While taking a weaving class from a yarn store in Wheat Ridge, I felt lost in the process & was pressured to come up with a project idea. Since I lived closer to Boulder, I was hoping they could help me figure out exactly what this teacher in Wheat Ridge wanted. I admit I was gutsy for asking for help from a competitor, but I was desperate. As I was browsing at the weaving patterns, the owner of Shuttles.. was on her lunch break. She must have noticed my puzzled face & immediately left her lunch to help me. She gave me an excellent idea for my project and also helped me with the calculations & yarn choice. When I was finally ready to pay, all of the employees were busy. I did notice, however, how much advice they gave each customer, & I must say special positive attention was given to a 20ish woman who was having trouble deciding what she really wanted. I have been in this store more times than I can count & have NEVER found the staff to be unfriendly and always more than willing to help. They offer many classes & have patient, friendly staff that went beyond my expectations. The first two commentors sound like they are just plugging their favorite stores & really did not give Shuttles... a fair shake. I do not have "Boulder" attitude, but feel that if you enter a store with "an attitude" that's exactly what you will get!! Remember to have fun, keep an open mind, & have patience with others who are probably having more difficulty than you. The whole purpose of learning these crafts it to CHILL!!! Keep exploring new places for new ideas, but keep in mind the expertise that each store provides & bad days even happen while trying to spread the joy of creating.

I have also had positive experiences with Shuttles for the most part. I took a spinning class there from Maggie, one of the owners, and loved it so much I almost went home with a wheel (I settled for a drop spindle instead). It's really a place where if you seek assistance, you'll usually get it fairly quickly. And just like Showers of Flowers, its selection is incredible.

I LOVE this yarn shop. All the ladies there are helpful, knowledgable, and friendly. The selection can't be beat either.

I have had very mixed experience with Shuttles. I am a young, but experienced knitter, and sometimes I have been totally ignored there, other times I have been "helped" but treated like I could not know anything, and very occasionally I have gotten good service. I certainly do not go there expecting good service or friendly staff, when I want that I go to Gypsy Wools downtown, or Mew Mew's in Louisville, but Shuttles does have a great selection and many of their teachers are very good. I have, however, had problems when taking classes from some of the staff, with the same issues of being treated poorly (seemingly) because of my age, and I have seen young women in their late teens turned away from classes because they would be "disruptive" to the "adults" taking the class. I have heard almost universally from young knitters that the women who run Shuttles treat them quite poorly, so I don't think the first 2 posters here are just bitter. For those of you who've had nothing but good experiences there, you're lucky!

the spinning fiber selection is a joke! They have a pretty big area devoted to spinning fiber, but they carry very little that isn't Merino, what they have isn't very well organized or labeled, and the Merino is not very fine or high quality fiber. While they have great selection for carders, including drum carders, and wheels, they have almost no selection for drop spindles.

The more I visit this shop, the more I like it. I have found the staff to be very helpful. I think everyone there is just very down to earth and real which could very well be misinterpreted as disinterest, but they really are nice folks there. The yarn selection, patterns, books, etc, are extensive.

I have been to SSS a couple of times now. The first time I was happy with the selection and size of the shop, found some things I needed. The service is a bit ... odd. An employee came up to us as we were browsing books and asked if we needed help finding anything. We replied that we were just browsing. She got a very cross look on her face and said "We are closing in 5 minutes!" and stormed off. We really didn't realize how late it was, and we did have planned purchases. We hurried to buy what we selected, but she still seemed grumpy with us.
Second time we were not so late, and a different employee treated us very well, balling our yarn and everything.
