Amazing selection, but bring cash or a check - no credit cards here.

incredible selection, but customer service can be spotty. sometimes too attentive, sometimes too lax. and the no credit card thing is just annoying.

I thought this is a wonderful store. Great selection, and price, which is important to me. I didn't have an issue with the no credit card thing, it is just a fact, and just remember to bring cash when u go.

Things must have changed, because I paid with a credit card this last Monday (June 2nd) with no problem. Really good selection, and very attentive customer service; I can see how it could be annoying, but I didn't really mind it.

They do take credit cards - just as well, given the amazing selection of yarns, books and needles packed into this hidden gem. Lauren was very helpful in pointing out things, but not so attentive that I felt pressured to buy.

Awesome selection and the woman working there at the time was amazing. Showed us all great, new stuff. Oh and they have a vast book selection like no other I've seen.

Hrm, the address moved, but the flag on the map didn't move...

I was in NY for 5 days on holliday and visited 9 yarnstores, and this one was my favorite of all of them. Great selection, nice atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff!

Hectic, but fabulous.
Wonderful selection of yarns in a truly cramped space. It gets so crowded that you can feel like you're on the subway at rush hour.
--BUT--
Seaport Yarns is worth the effort because the selection is great, and the staff, while often very busy, is friendly and helpful.

Great selection of yarns. However, the clerk that was there when I was there (owner maybe?) was a bit of a helicopter with me - hovering around, asking me questions, etc. I'm sure some people prefer that, but I am an independent shopper, and if I have a question, I will ask you.

It was my first visit to Seaport Yarns and I don't think I'll be back. I didn't see anything that I couldn't find elsewhere for the same price or less.
I also found the store very messy and unorganized. The store moved from Floor 5 to Floor 4... several months ago! Although they have a ton of yarn, it was difficult to find enough in the same dyelot for a larger project since everything was unorganized. You may be different but I get a little nervous when a yarn store is messy and dusty -- I start wondering about the cleanliness of the yarn. Hopefully, they'll be able to organize and give the place a good clean soon.
For those still wanting to go visit, the location is not marked at all. There is no signage either outside or inside. It's very close to Century 21, on Broadway. You should also check their website as their business hours have changed (and the picture on the website does NOT resemble their new location).

The selection here is pretty insane. Disorganized stock, though, which can be confusing. Avail yourself of the services of the owner--perhaps she can point you in the right direction. Or, if you have the time and patience, explore until you find what you're looking for or something that captures your attention. Good luck!
