I thought I would add this store to the selection of stores that we have in Amsterdam. I shop here all the time. The owner seems rather serous sometimes so it might appear unfriendly but she is actually quite helpful. I really like shopping there.

Great and up-to-date selection of Lana Grossa and Katia yarns, also lots of cross-stitching stuff, felting wool, sock yarn, hosiery, pattern books and knitting/crocheting/cross-stitch supplies. The owner may not suffer fools gladly but she is very knowledgeable and an incredibly hardworking, helpful and sweet person.
