Wonderful little shop! The owner is very sweet, and very open to customers' ideas. She really seems to want to build relationships & community. Really nice selection for its size, and very fair prices. There is a consignment area where customers & (I think) teachers can display and sell their items.

I love this store for so many reasons. I am an avid knitter and I can find the most beautiful yarns here for good prices. I also sell my knitwear in this store and have had a great experience doing that. The people who work there are willing to help you with projects and nice to chat with. It is a much needed store in an area that loves to knit. many of the yarns are from cooperatives that help women be economically secure in third world countries so you can feel good about buying the yarn. They have many services I do not think other stores have such as a recycled yarn bin and a way to borrow knitting needles. Go see for yourself. It is a treat.

Piedmont Yarn and Apparel is a wonderful store - inviting, bright and airy, filled with so much attractive, rich color and texture that it is impossible to leave without buying SOMETHING, even if you aren't sure what it will become. There are already-made items for sale which can help with inspiration, or with sharing your own hand-made items with others. The owner would like to make the shop as friendly as possible, so any and all questions are welcome, and I am sure she is open to suggestions to help customize her store to the needs of the knitting community. I was impressed with the variety of natural fibers, and the custom-dyed wools. There is even wool for felting projects. This store deserves a visit.

This newish store is really cool! They have locally sourced yarns and spinning fibers as well as Fair Trade items which is really cool, and very in keeping with the Green theme of Berkeley and California. They also have consignment options for those of us who make too many things and have no one to give them away to, or who want to make a little extra money! Everyone is friendly and willing to help out, greeting you as you come in and being ready to engage if you feel like talking. It's nice to see something different in the Bay, everyone should totally check it out!

I met the owner the other day, she is very lovely woman that knows her stuff. SHe was sponsoring our Men Who Crochet Chapter Meeting. She has a yarn selection that is very varied in price and blends. There is yarn I have not seen in any other places. SUnny location on the Piedmot Area, that is worth visiting and sponsoring.

Totally turned off to this shop.
My husband and I stopped by on a side trip to SF, and I was really looking forward to stopping by this shop, and even came back to Oakland as some of the other shops we intended to visit were closed. Anyway, so we stopped by the shop and browsed for a good 10 minutes, and the owner or salesperson did not stop once the entire time to greet either one of us or to ask us if we needed help! 10 minutes! I was terribly disappointed about that. There was another customer in the shop who the salesperson was chatting with, but we made eye contact with the salesperson as we walked in and the least she could've done was acknowledge our presence and welcome us. I continued checking out the selection, which was ok... nothing really stood out to me, and I promptly left without purchasing.
If the salesperson was nicer and at least made us feel welcomed in the shop, I would've purchased something, as I tend to do (even when I don't need anything) just to support the business. All in all, I was very disappointed by the lack of customer service. If in the future I make a stop through Oakland I will bypass this shop and go straight to Article Pract who hands down has an amazing selection and fantastic customer service!
