We went to the store twice within the last week and were shocked at how unfriendly the store keeper is. The first time we thought maybe it was just a bad day, but today when we were treated with the same snobby attitude we saw that it was a regular thing. They have beautiful yarns and I would have purchased some expensive items had the service been even the tiniest bit better.

Interesting comment above, not what I have found at all. I have hung around that shop enough to hear that some people are very demanding and barge in, have a one-half-inch scrap of yarn in hand and insist it be matched when it was not even purchased there, etc. Michelle is one of the friendliest and most patient, nicest people I know. The calibre if information, instruction and the tremendous beauty and stylish editing of the yarn collection sold at Muse makes it one of the very best fiber arts stores in CA for me.

I have had wonderful experiences at Muse. The yarns are beautiful and Michelle is very helpful. Recently I called after finding out my sister in law has cancer and I wanted to make her a couple of caps for after her chemo, but I hurt my knee and couldn't get to the store. I called and she recommended some yarns and put together a bag for me, all my husband had to do was run by and pick it up. I knew I could trust her recommendations. She also is great if you take in a pattern and need help working out a portion. She comes from a background in the arts and it shows in the items she makes for display, they never fail to inspire me.

My partner and I went last weekend. I have to say I was not impressed by the yarn or by the staff. They did have some beautiful finished samples with $$$$$ price tags too. I certainly did not barge in and demand to be waited on...perhaps I should have. I noticed some needle point supples shoved in a corner and the table in the middle was covered in stuff... I am sure they are still "moving into" the new location but have to say I won't go out of my way to go back.

Interesting to read these comments. I was in this shop on a recent wine trip to Napa and shared the same experience as some of you. I thought her yarn selection and ideas were wonderful, but she was quite irritable. I did not barge in and demand anything. I did have questions and I purchased $200 in goods....however, I did feel as though I was bothering her. I felt her pricing was fair for the high quality of goods that she stocked. I would go back, because I liked her products, but she may need a little vacation or something : )

I am an avid knitter, and I travel around the country and the world on a regular basis, and I am always looking for great new knitting shops. I have to say that this store is hands down one of my absolute all-time favorites. It's a small shop, but the merchandise is always exquisite -- not just the yarn, but all the little accessories and knick-knacks and jewelry and bags. I can never go into Muse without lightening my wallet a bit! This gets 5 stars all around!!!!!

I have to say, I'm in complete disagreement with some of the negative comments above - I've been going to Muse since I first moved here 7 years ago, and I've always found the store to be a wonderful place to visit, with very caring ownership (Michelle is the best) and ALWAYS willing to take the time to help on advice, selection and general information! GREAT quality yarns, and always interesting patterns to choose from.

I do not know who is responsible for updating this 'blog', but the location and shop information are incorrect to date. I am disappointed with the negative reviews. They do not give an accurate or fair account of the shop owner, Michele. She is caring, warm, creative, and helpful. The shop's atmosphere gives a feeling of home and I never walk away disappointed. Michele has a wonderful selection of yarn and I always stock up when I pass through St. Helena. Too bad, so sad for those of you who have not had a positive experience- you have missed out.

I'm not a knitter, but Muse sold me a couple of finished samples that were very well made and that my wife has enjoyed immensely. The coffee shop is quite good as well!

Love this shop. I have become a better knitter because of the fun I have with the beautiful yarns, patterns and books Muse sells. Michelle is very helpful. She always has great suggestions and she works hard to keep the content of the shop current and interesting. Whenever I am lucky enough to be in St. Helena, I always stop by to see that is new. Next time you are there make a point to say hello and engage her in conversation. You will find Michelle to be a wealth of knowledge. The shop is on Main St. next to the St. Helena Hotel.
