Store is very dusty and has a strong musty smell. No credit cards accepted, cash only. Employees not very helpful. Would not recommend.

Midwest Discount Yarns has a wonderful assortment of different types of yarns and a selection of colors, not
found in other "craft" stores. There are lots of large
cones which I haven't found anywhere else. (Old buildings
usually do have a unique smell and this is an old building.
I did not find it dusty.)

I think there are some finds here at times, but there's a lot to sort through to get there. For basic Lion Brand or other less fancy yarns, I've found the prices at other stores (JoAnn's and Hancock's) cheaper.
The store is very crowded and in the back there are boxes and boxes of yarns...most of what I've seen are acrylic, but I am open to being corrected.

Stopped by this store as a last stop on a yarn crawl. I'm glad to see the hours have been removed from this site because they were wrong. They had closed an hour earlier but from what we saw in the window display this was not a yarn store but more a thrift store. The window display was dusty and looked like it could have been set up in the 70's. This being the image they chose to portray, I will not be making any attempt to correct it.

The musty smell is still there. The yarn is all discount yarn, (oddly, none of it was cheap... same brands as the big chains, and certainly not as cheap as they sell them, (wal-mart, Joann's, Hobby Lobby, Meijer, Michael's, etc). The owner was there, asked where my wife is, (imagine going to a hardware store and being asked what your husband wanted you to pick up), and was nice once I politely pointed out her mistake. It looks like an acrylic yarn museum. The yarn is sold in clear plastic bags, (found a couple with bugs in it). She just seemed like she's never left the store since 1972, poor dear. I felt sorry for her more than anything, but I didn't feel sorry enough to buy musty acrylic yarn for $2 more than I'd pay at the crafty megamart.
