Sorry, I can't get past the location. This shop may be in an office building, but so is the bar/local pub. This isn't downtown Manhattan.

From the moment I first walked into the shop three years ago, I have always been made to feel right at home; to walk around the shop and feel the different yarns, look at the notions, pick up samples to see how they were knitted/finished. Mary Lynn and Jennifer are very knowledgeable about knitting, yarns, patterns, suppliers, etc. If they don't have what I am looking for, they will order it. If they can't help with with a knitting problem, they will research and get the information to me.

They are always on top of the latest trends and I appreciate their honesty when I want to veer off on my own when working a pattern.

The location of the shop has not deterred me from visiting nor bringing friends. I've never had a problem with cigarette smoke nor do I have a problem with a local pub being on the first floor. I have had many pleasant conversations with the tenants in this office building, both professional and retail. The fact that Mary Lynn and Jennifer have their shop in downtown Bloomington is a testament to their loyalty to the downtown area, not having moved to the more trendier parts of town.

Please don't let the office building location deter you from visiting. This is a homey, friendly, at-ease shop where knitters of both sexes, young and old, are made to feel welcome.

I found this store yesterday pretty easy. It is located in a downtown area, in an office building. The woman helping me was extremely kind and helpful. She let me know that she works at the shop on a small scale, but yet was able to answer all my questions. She also let me know that the shop will be almost doubling its yarn inventory and adding a rather large button inventory to their already large accessory inventory. I was able to find some Christmas presents projects because of all the nice samples. They are even ordering me yarn, and shipping it, for a beautiful sweater I have just been itching to do. A lot of the shops in my area limit you to what is on hand OR let your order but it could take awhile to come in. So I really appreciated this gesture. I will have to post after receiving my yarn to let you know if it was a good turnaround time. Lots of great yarn.
I will definately visit this shop again on my way thru.

I was born in the area - and when I came visit I was excited to see several shops so close. This was perhaps my favorite shop - as they had a very great view, loads of samples and a lot of different yarn for me to choose from. I visited in the middle of the week, and found the 2 people to be extremely helpful, but they didn't hover, and they found several free patterns as well as pattern books for the yarn I was interested in. It made deciding what to buy very easy. I definately felt right at home and would enjoy coming back to knit with them if I visit again.

I visited this shop as well as 2 others during a stay in Bloomington and this was my least favorite of the 3. It was very dreary, and I was ignored for quite a long time while a group of what I assume were either "regulars" or staff ate at a table. The air in the building was stale and smelled of smoke. It seems a poor location for housing yarns. Some other comments refer to the location as easy to find, but I had a terrible time because of some one way streets. I just didn't find it welcoming at all. Maybe they are nicer to their regulars, and maybe the regulars are used to the dreary building, but if I lived here I don't think I would be a regular because of the location and the way I was made to feel like an outsider.

Funny, I needed buttons for my grandsons sweater. But when I called the other area shops they didn't carry buttons. So I went to Mary Lynn's prepared to see gaudy buttons...I did find fun buttons for my grandsons sweater, AND a big beautiful rosewood button I am going to use on a shawl. I additionally purchased a shawl pin and yarn for a present for my aunt for Christmas. I have to say, this shop does seem to have everything I need.

Love this shop. Everyone is so friendly and eager to help. Great selection of yarn in all price ranges. Because I am not a real experienced knitter, have found Jennifer to be extremely helpful and patient when I make a mistake or need help. Lots of variety in the classes for all levels of skill and interest. Definitely on my list of favorite shops

I too am new to the area. My friend called me to come up and knit with her when she found this quaint shop. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and selection. I also walked away from the store with a few new projects, I am particularly a fan of all the sock yarn they have. I will be back to knit with this shop tonite at an open knitting group. I look forward to it.

My first time in, found the store pretty quickly. It is in an office building, but the store is real "homey" Even though it was my first time in, I sat in the knitting room for a little while and got to know a few new people. SInce I am new to this area, that was very welcoming. I even left with some new projects for people on my Christmas list. Very Welcoming shop with a nice selection of yarn and supplies.

Definitely in a tough to spot location. I drove around a WHILE before I realized it was in the office type building.

First time I was there everyone was SUPER SUPER welcoming...gave me a tour of the shop and explained where things were. Immensly friendly and helpful.

Second time, I was on a mission to find buttons for my just finished February Lady Sweater and when I inquired about buttons was told "well we have special buttons here, different than what you are going to find at a fabric store" um yeah...thats why I was looking there.... I've always bought my sweater buttons at a LYS. That said, she didn't carry any of the button lines most LYS carry and all buttons were very novelty-ish...a total turn off. No way I could put a gaudy button on my gorgeous sweater.

I couldn't find the place and now I see why with all the talk about the bar. Being from out of town, between the one way streets and figuring that no one would put a yarn shop in the same location as a tavern I went right by the place I guess. I ended up giving up on this one.

A little pricey, tho pretty yarns. Did not like the locale and agree with previous post about it being in the same building as a bar. It really didn't matter what side of the building it was on. Found staff fairly friendly and very knowlegable, but a little bossy about finishing my existing project- I like to start projects more than finish them :)

I found there was plenty of parking, specifically for her, and the bar???It was in the corner of another part of the building --- Yarn seems to be multiplying and so do samples in the Yarn Garden

Agree about the friendliness. And I really didn't care for the location...difficult to find, park, and above a bar.

I have found the staff at Mary Lynn's to be very helpful and friendly. They have a wide variety of yarns and price points. Lots of sock yarn which is my favorite temptation. I have to drive 45 minutes to get to their shop, but it's worth it.

Can't ever get anyone to answer the phone at this store. Also, when I stop by the store, it's often closed with no sign posted for hours they are open or when they will be back. I give up.

I found this store to be really friendly. I walked in not really knowing what I wanted to do, and they helped me find a free pattern, and then a reasonable yarn. We also looked at some expensive yarn, but they didn't push. Their knowledge exceeds any around the area

This store is hit or miss as it relates to friendly/helpfulness. Sometimes very friendly and welcoming. Others, REALLY not. Selection is okay, store is very large with a wide variety of yarns - just not most of them yarns I prefer...but others may find some great options here.
