Great folks at this store! Lots of choices of yarn.

Nice store with a lot of selection, from sock yarn to hand dyed to cottons to blends.
The lady in there was a tad stand-offish but not rude(could have been because I brought my mother -- a non-knitter who pondered loudly about why someone from Florida would knit socks or sweaters).

Gerhild - your store is fabulous. I believe I will be getting those knitting needles out again this fall. Blessings & Health - Donna Wright - www.wrightjuiceplus.com

Gerhild has been so helpful with me! Great selection ! She has taught me more knitting techniques! Very calm and patient teacher the only complaint is that I have a hard time following patterns and for now I need a pattern that is word for word until I get more experience. Great store!

I like this store-it's near a chocolate store. I took a class there and it was good but the area for the class was a hallway in the stock room. It was too cramped. The owner knows a lot about knitting.

I just visited the store for the 2nd time. Both times, saleslady was not standoffish, but actually rude. I was opening a bag of yarn to take 2 balls out and she ran up and yelled "DON'T DO THAT!!!!" I asked her why, did I have to buy the entire bag and she said "No, I thought you were just opening it to feel the yarn". I regret that I spent any money in the store. There are plenty of yarn shops who treat customers better. The woman acted like I was taking her own personal stash. Yuck! Bad experience.

I was looking around the store, but left after the sales woman gave me the evil eye. Not sure if she thought that I was going to steal something or mess up a display, but either way, felt very unwelcome. It's too bad since we only have 2 knitting shops in TC that are not a chain. By the way, the other shop, Yarn Quest had very helpful and friendly staff. As a result, I will not be back to Lost Art.

I brought my boyfriends parents, who are out of town visitors, to Lost Art because my boyfriends mother knits. When we walked in a elderly woman was trying to return some knitting needles that she had received as a present (and were not the right size) and the saleswoman at the counter was treating and interrogating her as if she were a terrorist. As we walked around the store and looked and touched various yarns we felt exactly the way as other people above have posted, that we were touching HER yarns and messing up her displays. We ended up buying some yarn and when we all walked out we laughed at how rude and uninviting the grouchy old saleswoman was. We went back another time and had a similar experience with the same grouchy old saleswoman. Later that weekend, we found Yarn Quest on Garfield Ave and had a great experience. The people were friendly, they offered us coffee, and there were knitting classes in session while we were there. My boyfriends parents are here again this weekend and we went to Yarn Quest. We will still walk by Lost Art, but check and make sure that the nice lady is working before we enter.

I went in this store one two different occasions and met 2 different ladies at the counter. The first was very standoffish... but I was fine with that. I was there to browse. She was eyeing my knitting bag and we chatted about it for a bit, with her claiming she had bag envy.
The second day they were having a knitting class/circle in the back (stockroom) and the sales lady was very helpful and helped me find just what I was looking for.

Gerhild: Better take me off the Magic Needle Sock Class list for now. We are 'on the road' downstate for Granddaughter's volleyball games and every week they are different days. If you try to schedule a class around my schedule you would never have a class. I'll catch up with you re: the class later on... (after volleyball and basketball)... From now through fall and winter I am 'following the bouncing ball' :-) Thanks for your call. Sallie

This is a snotty yarn shop. I won't go back, there are other yarn shops in the Traverse City area that treat you much nicer. Inish Knits in cedar is very friendly and so is Yarn Quest in Traverse city. I only spend my money where I am treated nicely.

It's as if they don't like customers. I stood in line for so long that the parking meter expired, though it was only one person being rung up. After that impossibly long wait (listening to gossip that lasted long after the transaction was finished) the owner actually snapped at me and acted like I was wasting HER time. "Are you SURE you want to buy that? It's 5 dollars a skein" (shoots me a disbelievingly scathing look like I would never pay that much for yarn) Unbelievable. I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone, ever.

Well I am not surprised by the people who were put off a this shop. I too was from out of town and I wanted to buy a pattern book and yarn, I was told I could only but the pattern if I was going to buy the yarn specified in the pattern. If I'd had any sense I'd have walked out right then. I am going to try to get them to take the yarn back as I beleive it was sold to me under a false pretenses. Needless to say I would be buying yarn there ever again.

Lisa,
Did you buy Reynolds HOpscotch for Kids? I am looking for a ball or two of color 5203, lot 1436.
I too was told that I could only buy the book if I bought the yarn as well. I bought the yarn without the book because the books are expensive and the patterns not so sophisticated that I could not figure them out without a pattern. The clerk was helpful and encouraged me to go ahead with the yarn only.
Well now I need a bit more yarn to finish the delightful sweater I made. This yarn knits up beautifully...... I would like to buy from you if you have it.

I have to put my two cents in here......I was new to Traverse City three years ago and first went to Yarn Quest on Garfield Road because it was closer to our home. I was in the shop 10-15 minutes without the least bit of an acknowledgement from the two people in the store who were deep into hushed-whisper gossip (I'm assuming at least one of them was an employee). So, I marched out of there and into Lost Art where I was warmly welcomed and guided for a new project.
I've since taken classes and bought *all* my knitting supplies at Lost Art and will never return to Yarn Quest. Gerhild is unbelievably knowledgeable and has shared her wisdom with many.....we are all better knitters because of her!

I would like to know if you would be interested in teaching my girlscout troup, 8 and 9 year olds some basic knitting, so that they could make something by themselves. If this is something you would be interested in, or you know someone else who wouldn't mind giving them some lessons please call me at 231-409-4114. Thanks
