They do have a good selection, but I find that it's a bit pricey(ironically "bon marché" means cheap in French). The staff are generally helpful, but you may have to wait a bit until a salesperson is free.

Bon Marché is fine if you're looking for your standard yarns, such as Rowan and Phildar. I also found it a bit overpriced, and the salespeople did not pay any attention to me (perhaps because I was a student that looked broke?). I wasn't impressed with their selection (lots of acrylics) but the store in itself is worth a look - it's huge and filled with brand and designer items.

I agree that Bon Marché has a very good selection of basic yarns (Bouton d'Or, Rowan, Debbie Bliss, Anny Blatt, Noro). Nothing particularly fancy or imaginative was on offer, but the yarns were of high quality. The lighting was rather dim (lots of spotlights) so be careful if you're working with color.

I visited recently while on vacation, and almost didn't include this on my Paris yarn crawl, but I'm glad I did. I was wowed by the selection (like thousands of skeins of yarn), and I guess these other posters who are claiming it a "selection of basic yarns" are used to going to much nicer yarn stores than I am! Anyway, I was happy to fondle a number of Rowan yarns, not to mention the largest selection of Noro types and colorways that I've ever been in the presence of, and I was happy to see some french yarns present (Phildar, Bouton d'Or). I try to select local yarns for my souvenir purchases. There was also a good selection of notions, buttons, zippers, needles, finishing touches... as well as a counter of super fab buttons from La Drougerie. It was bustley, and the staff was very busy.
