I have visited this shop several times (basically, each time I have been in the OBX), and each time I have come away with something terrific, whether yarn, a book, a kit, a pattern, buttons, or some combination. Recently (I think) they have started carrying a line of indy-dyed yarn called Sea Star Handpaints, in a luscious array of colors, all of which have names appropriate to the area--very hard to resist! Definitely worth a visit--or five.

It lives up to its name -- I was hooked from my first visit and ended up popping in almost every day of our vacation. The selection of yarns was lovely, and the owner was very helpful. There is a great selection of knitted up samples that were very inspirational, and the location is spacious and inviting. If you're on the Outer Banks and have a hankering to work with yarn, you don't want to miss this great local yarn shop!

I found the owner and employee at Knitting Addiction to be very helpful (they each offered to wind my yarn for me twice!) and very knowledgeable about their products. They were also very friendly and chatted with my husband while I shopped. They have a great little sitting area with a couch and coffee table where people can sit and knit or sit and wait, though if the brewery a couple doors down had been open at the time I'm sure my husband would have preferred to go there. :) I like that they carry some yarn dyed by a local artist and also the Ellyn Cooper line, which is somewhat unique since her yarns are not sold through a distributor. There is a broad price range of yarns, with some more typical yarns (such as the baby and kid-friendly yarn) selling for about $5 per skein clear up to the luxury fibers, such as the silk, alpaca, llama, etc., blends and the Ellyn Cooper yarns with silver in them, so something for everybody. The needles and books are well-stocked, and they have lots of projects and free patterns around the store if you aren't quite sure what you want to knit.

Oh, and the shop cat was not there the day I was, but they did have a sweet black lab. :)

This shop was such a pleasure to visit. The prices are a little high, but not out of line for a touristy area. As someone who comes from a small town with a nice local yarn shop that does not carry alot of high end yarns, I like splurging on vacation. I found the selection of yarns very complete and the staff knowledgeable. I will definitely come back each time I am visiting the Outer Banks.

I love this shop! The atmosphere is inviting and the selection of yarn is vast. The owner and employees have always been extremely helpful and generous with their knitting knowledge. They also have some unique designs of their own creation.

Did I mention the huge selection of yarn? They have some great stuff.

This is a physically lovely shop, full of high-end yarns, hand-crafted buttons, and with lots of atmosphere. They even have a shop cat. I've visit every time we visit the Outer Banks and have made purchases before. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. The prices are high.

My reservations:
When I asked for a copy of Elizabeth Zimmerman's "Knitting Without Tears," I was told they do not carry her titles because they "have a problem with Elizabeth Zimmerman."

The owner steered me to two more expensive instructional reference books. They were the same price. She also recommended a series of one-skein pattern books as a substitute. I selected a one-skein pattern book and one of the instructional titles and paid with my credit card. When I went to gift wrap the books, I discovered that one of the titles was not the book I'd chosen but the other title the owner showed me.

When I returned the untouched book with the original receipt to exchange for the title I selected, the shop owner stated that she does not do returns or exchanges on books or patterns due to "copyright restrictions." I have never encountered any bookstore with a like policy, especially one that did not post the "policy" in the shop or on the store's website.

I consider this excuse to be sheer nonsense of the type one sometimes encounters in areas with heavy tourism. It is designed to avoid customer returns and the necessity and expense of refunds. Obviously I will not shop there again.

I love this store, the staff is so nice without being overpowering. Good selection (though no lace). Cozy feel and pretty look.
