OK selection. Was a bit put-off by staff b/c they were eating something kind of...strong smelling and talking about personal things quite loudly. Was finally helpful after I'd been searching through their sock yarn for about 10 min. Didn't seem in any rush to help.

I was not happy with the service at all; not helpful or friendly.

I've been there several times - the staff is not overly helpful or friendly, although are some seem nicer than others. They don't really have any interest in you or your projects. I basically go there to buy yarn and now don't expect any more than that. The shop itself is nice with a nice selection of yarn.

Last time I went in the two snobby salesladies were watching me like a hawk - perhaps they suspected that I was going to shoplift? That's always a great feeling /sarcasm. At any rate, the selection is so-so (lots of 'novelty' yarns and baby yarns), the yarns overpriced, and they don't even carry circular needles below a size 2. Puh-leeze.

staff is quite unfriendly unless you happen to be part of their click. the selection of yarn is mediocre at best. prices are outrageous. There's plenty of better stores in the area

I absolutely agree with "Goldentracks" comments. They have never been friendly or helpful to me.
One day I was at the coffee shop with my daughter and I was knitting. A couple of tables away there was another person knitting. The knitting community is pretty much a specialized group. Everyone I know who knits knows who works at the yarn shops.
In came the staff from Great Yarns. I thought how nice they have their own knitting group. Then I overheard what they were saying. They were most unpleasant.
They had a fine time making fun of one customer in particular. They made fun of her project. They disrespected her person. How they laughed when it was suggested that crime scene tape should be wrapped around her.
I have worked in craft stores for over 5 years. I know and understand how difficult customers can be. But you NEVER complain where customers can hear you. I was appalled by their unprofessional attitude.
When I contacted the store owner she totally blew me off. She told me that her staff did not feel that way. Well excuse me. I heard what they said.
I will NEVER buy anything from that store again.

What an awful place! Not only is the selection pretty limited (All the needles and notions they offer could easily be bought at any chain store-- no "nicer" needles at all), but the staff is just plain snotty. I won't be trotting over there again soon!

Just went there today for the first time and loved it! Great yarn selection and a beautiful store. The staff for extremely nice and friendly, I just jumped into the conversion and felt perfectly welcome to. The staff was very interested in me as a person and I felt like I belonged right away. Go and visit, you'll like it too!

This has to be the worst yarn store in town. The employees are horrible, the store is a jumbled mess, and they don't have a great selection of anything. Had it not been for other yarn stores in the area opening up I would have quit knitting-that's how bad this store is! Sorry ladies but I am in retail too and you all are one of the worst I have ever experienced. Customer service is everything and this store lacks it big time.

A good selection of yarn but the service is just poor as listed by others. Also, there isn't any place to really sit and knit in the shop.

Not So Great Yarns
I was ecstatic to find this shop initially. However, each time I've gone in I've been made to feel as if I'm a bother. The staff are cordial, but there's a definite underlying condescension whenever they interact with most customers. I ordered some yarn that took over a month to arrive, yet every time I called to ask about it, they could give me no other information than it had been ordered. I finally found a wonderful shop in the UK where I ordered the same yarn & received it in a week. I do not recommend this store to any knitter or crocheter, I direct them to the newest yarn shop in Raleigh where the staff are more than happy to answer any questions & don't make you feel like a second-class citizen. Great Yarns, your reputation precedes you & not in a good way. I truly hope you take the time to read some of your reviews on the web, you will find them very informative & they would be immensely helpful in improving your customer service & overall attitude toward customers.

I must admit, I almost avoided this shop due to the negative reviews concerning customer service. My daughter and I were shopping at Crabtree and I figured I might as well give it a go, I needed just a few skeins of Cascade 220 and didn't really need "customer service" anyway! As soon as we stepped through the door, the woman at the registered commented that she liked my Market Squres handbag! So far, so good! The shop IS small, and being a Saturday afternoon, crowded, but the selection of Cascade 220 (my fave felting yarn) was good. The woman who spoke to me when I first arrived rang me up and was really quite nice. She apologized that they couldn't wind the yarn for me while I waited, but since I like to wind my own, it wasn't a problem. Maybe the negative reviews are more about weekday workers? I quite enjoyed my visit, and will return if the occasion presents itself!
