Very up-scale & expensive shop. Intimidating for 'regular' folk. No prices on anything -- "If you have to ask, you can't afford it"???? -- I picked up 2 balls of Jarwal and a pkg of size 2 dps (Lantern Moon - wanted to see what all the fuss was about), figuring it'd be about $25-$30 and it cost me $50. I was too embarrassed to say PUT IT BACK!! And 2 of the Lantern Moon needles broke in half within 1" of starting the socks...grrrrr....

I have visited yarn shops all across the USA and this is one of my favorites. They have a beautiful selection of yarns and the staff is very helpful.

My husband and I travel from Boston to Freeport about twice a year. On our last trip I noticed this yarn store and had to stop. They have an enormous selection of yarns, in particular Rowan products of which I am a HUGE fan. There were lots and lots of baby yarns and patterns available, some more obscure and beautiful imported yarns, and just lots of goodies for fiber fanatics. The building is larger than your average yarn store and has a little bit of a department store feel, but everything is nicely laid out and well-lit. The staff leave you alone to browse, but they are available if you have questions. I happen to like that "hands-off" approach to customer service. I recommend this shop if you're in the area.

Great selection of solid colored sock yarn, but very cold atmosphere. I find when I go in with my grandmother, she's fawned over and I'm ignored, but I'm the one that's actually the knitter. The only time I got attention when I went in by myself was when I was carrying an expensive purse. I also attempted to apply for a job there after seeing a sign in the window saying they were hiring, and was told that sign was just always there, they weren't really hiring. I tried again later, after coming in to the store in person to apply. I was told to come back the next day when the owner was there. I did, and she never even came out of the back room to look at me, just had me leave my resume at the counter. I was never called. Like I said, nice selection, but overpriced (higher price stickers are put on books and magazines) and cold compared to the nice stores in Brunswick, not much further up the road.

This very cold shop is huge and has an incredible selection but be aware that everything is priced higher here than it would be anywhere else, most of the stock is priced way above suggested manufacturers' retail price. Much of the stock isn't stickered and the shop definitely has the 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it' vibe. The few sale bins contain marked-down yarn that is still priced above what it would be elsewhere.
Prices on books and magazines are stickered over with much higher prices. For example, a 7.99 magazine is $9.50. This is beyond ridiculous.
I had salespeople fawning over me and I guess I got the attention because we pulled up in a new expensive car and I was carrying an expensive bag, but I didn't buy anything. As I like to say...I may be rich but I'm not stupid.
