I found the selection the most interesting aspect of this location -- in addition to the usual, several of the "basic" yarns are of different brands (thus colours, weights, and prices) than the usual Vancouver collections.
The true joy of this location is the easy access to transit and the proliferation of delightful cafes nearby -- it's perfect for holding knitting groups nearby, and popping in for one more ball or an accessory to finish a project.

Alright, now I've gone in for more than the inaugural visit, I'm disenchanted. It's still nice having a bit of different stock, but I'm really put off by the owner's vibe.
My partner tried to surprise me with new needles, but when they didn't have what he knew I liked in stock, they directed him to check The Internet -- no pointing a lost non-knitter to alternatives, or to other Local Yarn Stores. He also singled this out as the only yarn store he's gone to that feels "old-lady."
I can't put my finger on how or why I'm feeling this, but instead of the encompassing-family vibe I get from the mother-daughter team at Three Bags Full, here I get more of an entitled, "You mere shoppers will take what I sell you, and like it!" vibe. The owner is happy to answer questions and tell stories, yet the punchline always seems to be that I should feel lucky for being permitted to shop here.
I'd really appreciate someone disagreeing with me on this -- anyone else please make comments on your own impressions so my single viewpoint doesn't define this place online.

I would like to share with you a great experience I had last fall when I visited GINA BROWN's for the first time.
As I walked into the store I was excited to see all the wonderful colours of yarn and the choices Gina's offered. Seeing the well displayed items the staff had knitted or crocheted just added to the experience. Sometimes it is hard to visualize what a completed pattern will look like. The store had a very welcome look and definitely suitable for all ages.
I found the staff very friendly, outgoing and helpful. Anyone who dropped by while I was there received the same courtesy as I did. When I first arrived, the staff approached me and asked if there was something she could help me with. Then, she left to give me a chance to look around {which I really liked because I can't stand it when someone hoovers over me}.
Though I wished I could have stayed longer, I paid for my purchases and left with my husband knowing it had been a 'good thing' to have been at Gina Brown's Vancouver. The next time I am in that area, I will be sure to stop by again.

Today, I bought the loveliest cashmere and silk yarn at Gina Brown's yarn store!
I have never knitted with this yarn before and given my beginner/intermediate skills I felt quite anxious to begin my project. My worries though soon turned to excitement.
The staff was extremely knowledgeable on the quantity of yarn my project required. I did not need needles but I was was looking for a simple, yet inspiring pattern. She invited me to look around the store and it made me feel very comfortable. It did not take her long to pick up on what my style really is and she guided me through finding the pattern that best suited my yarn, style and skills.
I walked out of there accomplished and re-assured that I can always count oh Gina Brown's customer service. I love this exquisite West side yarn store; it is welcoming, very well supplied, super-organized and fun.

A lovely store with a great selection of yarn - including some affordable selections. There doesn't seem to be the passion for knitting and yarn that you find at some stores which means I don't always get inspired when there (eg. most of the sample projects seem to have been supplied by the yarn manufacturers). The staff has always been very helpful however, and clearly know their stuff.
