On the one trip I made to this store, I found the atmosphere rather elitist and not friendly. A friend was looking to substitute yarn for a pattern since she didn't want to spend megabucks on a pattern she wasn't sure she would like. The employee we dealt with was not helpful at all. I did mention this fact to the owner and she seemed more helpful.

GREAT selection! My first trip there, I was in awe.

I completey agree with "stlwatrs"
I too found the atmosphere rather elitist and not friendly. Except it was the owner that was giving me a snobby attitude.
I was an absolute begginer and asked a novice question, (God forbid!)
I was treated to an answer that was less that nice, and was treated like I was an total idiot.
Apparently my MONEY wasn't green enough for thier store.
So.......guess what???
NEVER GOING BACK!
NEVER RECOMMENDING THEM EITHER!
(Flash forward 5 years:
I now run a knitting group and when begginers ask where to go for their supplies I tell them to go to my top pick, Babettas!)

I agree with the above. You have to know what you want when you go here or they'll roll right over you with their attitude. That said, good and varied selection. All the basics and then some. Now that they know me and my levels of knitting, I'm not treated like an ignoramus, besides: I ignore them! till I'm ready.

I agree the above comments. Their selection is fabulous but the staff isn't helpful until they get to know you.

I have been shopping here for over a year and love it. Not only do I love the selection, there is always plenty of it in many colors. I think the people there are quite nice and very helpful. And if you sit there long enough, you realize how many people come in and ask really stupid questions, or want yarn wound that they bought some place else.
I do recommend this shop, but only to serious knitters. Beginners who want to buy inexpensive yarns are better off going to Joann's.

This isn't a cozy, hang out for hours kind of shop. I've been twice - once a few months ago with two friends and we were never greeted or approached the entire hour we were there. I visited again this week during the Yarn Hop and the three women were really nice. I guess it just depends on the day you get there. That out of the way, they have a HUGE selection of yarn and tons of it on sale! 20%-50% off. We went back and dug through the bins and found some awesome deals on closeout yarn (just don't poke holes in the plastic bags to fondle the yarn; they didn't seem to appreciate that much). They have every book and booklet known to man - lots of hard to find imports too. So, if you want to be left alone and if you don't want to make friends with the cashiers, you'll be in luck, but if you want the warm fuzzies, head to Babetta's. :)

I went to this shop after reading all of the "not so nice" comments here. I found the opposite to be true of this shop. First of all we were in town doing some back to school shopping and visiting my mom. So of course going to a yarn shop with my 3 kids wasn't quite planned to be a very long visit. However because the shop is so friendly and kid friendly I was in the shop browsing for 3+ hours. My kids brought in their handheld game boy game machines, and set at the big long table where they played quietly. The lady even commented that we knew how to come to a yarn shop prepared. I found the store to have amazing yarns, patterns, books, decorations, bags, and lots more goodies. The staff is warm, friendly, encouraging and engaging. The staff even let my children use yarn and needles set out on the tables to practice knitting. I purchased quite a lot of yarns and a few pattern books. I loved this shop, would highly recommend it and will go back again and again. Not sure what anyone else was talking about. I loved this shop.

Nice selection of yarns, but once I said I was a crocheter and machine knitter they lost interest in me.

I was visiting friends and family in the area and of course had to break free for a few hours to visit yarn shops. What an amazing and well organized selection! Lots of knitted samples to feel how the yarns knit, and as mentioned above, a huge sale section! That was fun! I found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the shop a nice buzz of activity on a Saturday afternoon. Definitely worth the stop!
