This is one of my favorite yarn stores! It's HUGE and the stock is the most varied and complete that I've ever seen. Vera also sells locally grown fibers along with just about every other fine brand of yarn you can think of. This place is truly a find!

I heard on Ravelry that there's a large Dalegarn/Dale of Norway Falk selection. :)

Just got back from my 7th trip to Alaska and was really disappointed in Fantastic Fibers this trip. It doesn't look like it's been kept up, and although there's still a ton of yarn there, I'm sure there were some of the same ones that were there when I last visited in 2006. Also, this is a home/store, and the dog smells were really strong this time.

Went to Fantastic Fibers this summer and would not like to buy yarn there because of how it smells. I do not want to bring home fibers smelling of musty dog. I was really disappointed because there aren't many yarn stores around. I bought some knitting needles, but I usually will just buy the rest of my yarn on-line.

Fantastic Fibers is owner-operated by a single mom who is doing her best to run a business while raising teenagers - all in the same big old house. It is cosy, homey and not always tidy (but then, neither is my house), but the vast stock of yarns, knitting tools, books, magazines and patterns are well organized.
Vera is a top-notch knitter and willing to help anyone with any knitting related problem no matter what else may be going on. Drop-ins are welcomed like family. You can't get that sort of service just anyplace. I visit as often as I can manage and seldom leave without something special in my bag.

I went in yesterday for help with a project that I didn't even buy there. She was super helpful and there were so many things I can't wait to be able to buy (self-imposed moratorium on new yarn until current projects are done). Yes, there are dogs. Yes, kids wander in and out but...mine were welcomed and have been asking if we could go back. Children who WANT to go to the yarn shop? Priceless! Palmer is not LA so if you were expecting an expansive brightly lit gallery-like display space you won't be happy but I am thrilled to have such a fabulous resource so close to home.

I concur with comments made by Steph above: my children love to stop here with me and I stop and shop whenever I'm in Palmer. There's a nice, varied selection of yarns and other supplies (books, patterns, needles, etc.), and Vera (the shop owner) is always willing to help with a project, order a pattern, whatever you need. I've always felt very welcomed and at home in the shop and am sad when I happen to be in Palmer on a day when she's closed.

My children-- 7 left at home-- love going in to Fantastic Fibers. My sons knit as well as my daughters and they love to knit and love hanging out with me at Vera's so much that I have had to find a new hobby if I am wantting to do something on my own!
If you get there when she isn't busy, Vera has ideas for projects and she has some really cool samples of projects, many that she sells on consignment.
The most wonderful thing is that this woman behind the counter is multi-degreed and very versatile and smart. When I asked about what she knew of dying it turned out that she has a couple of degrees in biology and either knows the answers or knows how to get them and can translate them into terms that I can understand.
The dogs are all sweet and I have never smelled them.

Fanstatic Fibers is a home run business with a great selection and exceptional service. Even the teenagers are able to answer questions about knitting. I have not been in a couple of months but every time I go I feel welcomed and am in awe of her kindness. There was another knitting store in the Valley in which walking in you felt out of place, you were ignored unless part of the "click". In Fantastic Fibers there is never that type of atompshere. Support local business.....buy at Fantastic Fibers.

Fantastic Fibers is my favorite yarn store. Vera is incredible, always a kind word, interested in your project and always willing to help with a problem. The shop is homey and welcoming and yes there are dogs and a cat, but I have never detected an odor, even when the roof was leaking. I drive out from Anchorage about 3 times a month, to sit and knit on Saturdays and try to find an excuse to stop in more often.

Fantastic Fibers in Palmer just made my #1 yarn/fiber store. I LOVE IT....so quaint, unique, wonderfully stocked, I could spend hours and hours there - if for nothing else then visiting with Vera and Stephanie. One of my grand daughters had learned needle felting at Birchtree school last year and wanted to have some needles and wool at home for some projects. The store was recommended by a customer we talked with in a fabric store in Wasilla and we went there the next day. Vera directed us to the basic materials we would need including a book on animals. That night was fantastic seeing both my grand daughters, 9 and 7 years old, PLUS my daughter working diligently on projects. Next day before I left town to come home to Nelchina I went back and bought more wool and books for them. Amazing and fun craft - Amazing store and especially the wonderful customer service from Vera and Stephanie. Can't wait to make another trip to "town" and really spend some time in there looking at all the yarns, wool, and supplies.
