I go here on occasion for a change of scenery, or if I'm in the neighborhood. Good if you're a Dinkytowner. They had a good selection, and a discount 'loft' upstairs, where I plundered through their Berroco Bling Bling! They were only moderately helpful, and I didn't feel like I could strike up a conversation with them. However, they have tons of classes, and a large weaving following. Don't get confused by the futon shop next door. Parking is tight - park on one of the smaller streets with a deadend, or one of the precious few spots behind the store.

I have been virtually ignored in this store.

It's a great store. I have a friend who has displayed some of her knitting there. I agree - the discount loft is a must-see for the best deals.

I've gone often during the day and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The shop is large, and has tons of gorgeous things and great patterns.

We were ignored by the rude help...

I love this store! They let me browse without bothering me, but when I have a question, the staff has always been helpful, making suggestions, and giving me ideas and tips. The free clinic has also gotten me out of a lot of knitting problems, too.

I went to the store because it was the closest and they had bright orange wool yarn. I really like the staff and they have always been helpful. I like their selection of things.

There are two main staff members at Depth of Field, one of which is very snobby and unhelpful (but leaves me alone, which is not always a bad thing). The other is friendly, and is helpful, but sometimes neglects to ask about the nature of the project (thusly recommending malabrigo merino handyed for a set of stacking felt boxes. Lambspride variegated anyone?) The selection is pretty good, particularly for wool, and they have the largest size selection of bamboo crochet hooks that I've yet seen in the Twin Cities.

The staff members will leave you alone to look around, but if you ask a question they are more than willing to help you and sit down with you for hours. I have brought multiple projects into the store and received all the necessary help I have needed with them. They also have a great selection of yarn.

Back in the year they'd just moved to the current location in 1971, my weaver mother brought me in hand to choose the (Peruvian alpaca) yarn for my first weaving project. I visited after years away in the fall of 2009 and found them still as delightful, well-stocked, and using the same spool rack for the by-the-inch rat-tail satin cord (only it's mounted to the ceiling now). Good tools, good yarns, and I'll echo above sentiments re the staff - one's friendly and helpful and one appears to be really not into people. Don't let it make you hesitate to explore and deeply enjoy the place.
