They are really a fabric shop (a brilliant one), but cashed in on the knitting thing. They've just got in a whole lot of Rowan summer yarns and have a good range of other things. It is slightly expensive, but the one I go to most frequently because it is easy to get to. They have a basic range of needles, hooks and notions. They have a couple of luxury yarns.

A great place for travelers due to its close proximity to Flinders Street Station and hotels in the CBD.
I like it for its modest but selective collection of New Zealand yarns -- good for gifts for other knitters.
And on Fridays there are reps from Patons available for tips on knitting and crochet.
Word of warning: be sure you go during the Melbourne winter. Once September arrives, it's racing carnival season and the yarns are moved into a tiny area to make room for millinery accessories.

Minimal selection, no unique or local yarns. Okay for wools, pretty good collection of mohair. They carry a collection of New Zealand quill DPNs that are very cool and make a good knitting-souvenir for tourists.
