The Black Sheep Wool Company is a must see if you're in Salt Lake City. Friendly staff, great yarn and pattern selection, and crocheters are as welcome as knitters.
The store is located on the second floor. No worries if you need assistance with the stairs as there is a motorized chair installed along the stairs to whisk you to the top. The store is a good size and there is lots of natural light that streams in through the windows. The yarn selection is delightful - from Noro to Debbie Bliss to yarns I've never heard of. They also have a great assortment of patterns and they sell them in those handy protective plastic sleeves. There is a wall of notions - needles, hooks, counters, buttons, etc. The staff is very friendly and very helpful.

I was in town on business, and wanted to visit some of the local yarn shops in my spare time. This was a great place to check out! It is a little confusing and difficult to find because it shares a storefront with a dress shop and a home decor shop, but you have to go up the stairs. Once I found it, though, it was quite a delight! The space is kind of no-frills, but they have a beautiful selection of yarns. The woman working there at the time was incredibly knowledgeable and clearly had a love for knitting as she was working on a project while I was there. She checked in with me when I first walked in, then let me browse at my own pace and pretty much left me alone--which I like. When I got ready to make my purchase, she was very attentive and helpful, answering all my questions, and even taking extra time to demonstrate the addiclick needle set and giving me her thoughts about it. I will definitely try to come back any time I'm in town!
