Notes
Beehive is the main LYS for the Greater Victoria area. Nestled in a pink Freemason building on the edge of the down town core, this shop focuses primarily on knitting and yarn. They do occasionally carry prepared spinning fibers. It is not the most affordable shop around, nor the friendliest; but they do have a great selection and are easily accessible.

This is a very nice wool store, easy to find what you are looking for and with an area to look at patterns and books. What I liked the most is the colors, walls of colors.

This is a great place with the yarns nicely laid out. Completed sample items are displayed along with patterns and books.
I've found that it is occasionally difficult to find help even during quiet times though. Most of the staff is knowledgeable and friendly although one or two of the staff do come across as unfriendly or impatient with newer knitters.

Wow!! Loads of stock of every possible fibre and colour that one's little heart (and eyeballs) desire! Very accommodating and friendly staff and extremely encouraging if you have an 'idea' that needs a bit of development. I really enjoyed the fact that they have a 1-888 number for out-of-towners are willing to ship you yarn.

Absolutely a fantastic collection of yarn. Frustrated with only one hank in each colour of Fleece artist and Handmaiden, but in general great patterns, and hours of wonderful yarn dreams.

This is the best wool shop I have ever been in, but the staff is rarely helpful - in fact one woman is so rude that I often re-think my options and shop elsewhere! I have looked uo patterns and yarn at this store, then ordered them from another, as I actually dread going in. Many friends have had the same experience there.
Good luck shopping here !
btw, I am in no way a new knitter, and never need help of a technical nature, just need info about availability/volume of yarn etc.

A big selection. Well organized, lots of patterns, needles etc. Staff can come across as rude and make you feel like you are wasting their time. I would generally rather shop at one of the other stores where the staff are more friendly. But there is lots of yarn here that you can't get at other places in town.

Wonderful selection but as a couple of the other comments suggest the staff is very rude and not helpful at all. I would rather go to one of the other stores where I know I will be treated well.

This is the biggest yarn store in Victoria. It has a large selection of a wide variety of yarns, though not much from independent dyers. Despite the selection, this is not my favorite store. Staff can come across as a bit rude and can, intentionally or not, make you feel stupid (that could be me - I am quiet and shy). On the upside it is the only place in town (that I know of) that stocks Handmaiden and Fleece Artist.

Was visiting from Australia (June 2010) and just by chance saw this yarn store from the bus window. What a gem and how lucky Victoria is to have this LYS. The atmosphere, selection of yarn and staff were amoung the best. Pity it's on the other side of the world. Although I didn't purchase the staff were certainly lovely and I didn't experience any rudeness

Loved this place! Didn't buy anything though as I was spending too much money on my trip. But must have had 3 ladies offer to help me, they told me if I buy a skein they will wind it into a ball for me, it was a place that I definitely wanted to go to a knit night!!! Would go back for sure!!

This is a big store with lots of yarn, but they have the LEAST helpful staff.
