Lovely shop! Very pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. Well-lit, spacious shop with ample seating for knitters and bored significant others. Large selection of yarns (primarily natural fibers); courteous and knowledgeable staff makes this shop a favorite.

I wish they were closer to me or had one day a week where they were open past six pm. I'd love to go to this shop more often.

I visited Annie and Co. in February and was suitably impressed by their wide choice. From alpaca to cashmere, via merino, nylon, silk, cotton and every permutation in between, this is a store that really has a yarn for everyone. Far from the madding (and often maddening) crowds, Annie is relatively high up Madison Avenue, and is frequented by Upper East Side ladies who talk of the Hamptons and skillfully click away with beautifully bejeweled hands. The crowd is interesting in its own way, but may feel less welcoming than in other places. The store itself is extremely spacious, with plenty of seats and a large table. People can cast-on right away and classes and workshops are plentiful. Annie is not as well-known, at least online, as Purl is, and, really, there is no reason for this. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and you are welcome to browse on end. The selection is massive. Don't forget that all needlepoint supplies are to be found upstairs. Definitely the best knitting store in the NYC area. Wonderful selection, great service, excellent space. Everyone there is wonderful--very helpful but leave you alone to browse. It is unlike any of the other Manhattan stores in a great way. Avoid Yarntopia(like the plague) on the Upper Westside and go to Annies instead.

A great selection, although I was slightly disappointed by the service. When I walked in, there were several people hanging out there, and no one greeted me. It wasn't until I already picked out some yarn to buy and went to the register that the owner took notice of me. I honestly don't know if it was intentional or if she was just busy, as she treated me nicely after that. Still, quite a bit of lovely yarn, and very cozy.
