Lovely shop! Very pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. Well-lit, spacious shop with ample seating for knitters and bored significant others. Large selection of yarns (primarily natural fibers); courteous and knowledgeable staff makes this shop a favorite.

I wish they were closer to me or had one day a week where they were open past six pm. I'd love to go to this shop more often.

I visited Annie and Co. in February and was suitably impressed by their wide choice. From alpaca to cashmere, via merino, nylon, silk, cotton and every permutation in between, this is a store that really has a yarn for everyone. Far from the madding (and often maddening) crowds, Annie is relatively high up Madison Avenue, and is frequented by Upper East Side ladies who talk of the Hamptons and skillfully click away with beautifully bejeweled hands. The crowd is interesting in its own way, but may feel less welcoming than in other places. The store itself is extremely spacious, with plenty of seats and a large table. People can cast-on right away and classes and workshops are plentiful. Annie is not as well-known, at least online, as Purl is, and, really, there is no reason for this. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and you are welcome to browse on end. The selection is massive. Don't forget that all needlepoint supplies are to be found upstairs. Definitely the best knitting store in the NYC area. Wonderful selection, great service, excellent space. Everyone there is wonderful--very helpful but leave you alone to browse. It is unlike any of the other Manhattan stores in a great way. Avoid Yarntopia(like the plague) on the Upper Westside and go to Annies instead.

A great selection, although I was slightly disappointed by the service. When I walked in, there were several people hanging out there, and no one greeted me. It wasn't until I already picked out some yarn to buy and went to the register that the owner took notice of me. I honestly don't know if it was intentional or if she was just busy, as she treated me nicely after that. Still, quite a bit of lovely yarn, and very cozy.

Large and spacious store, which is a rarity in Manhattan. The upstairs is needlepoint, downstairs is yarn. If I were a needlepoint junkie I would definitely shop here, the finishing seems out of this world, I couldn't help but gaze at the finished projects that were waiting on a shelf to be claimed by their owners. I don't know who they use, but the woman is clearly a treasure!!! As far as the yarn selection, they had many high end companies represented. Pleasant staff, I will definitely make a return visit.

Always very friendly. Very nice selection of yarns, need more selection of needles though. Lovely space. Not sure if they have a SnB night but it would be a great place for one. Not pushy or overbearing. Helpful if you ask.

Annie's is a treat! It is light and spacious with a generous and comfortable seating area. The first time I walked in, I was overwhelmed. I had never knit and did not know where to begin. Several of the ladies sitting and knitting (customer), actually asked if they could be of help, got up from their seats, and started to show me books, patterns, and explain the yarns! I was so surprised at how warm and friendly it was. The owner, manager, and other sales associates have always been extremely helpful. While the store can be extremely busy, they are never too busy to stop and help with either knitting or words of encouragement! Unlike other shops, you are warmly welcomed no matter what your level. Even children are encouraged and helped with their projects. There are many classes and times available, with the list constantly expanding. The selection of yarns is mind-boggling! Upstairs is completely devoted to needlepoint. The projects displayed are beautiful. The finishing is top decorator quality, and the selection, as with the knittig, is superb and a vision of delight. Annie's seems to be the "best kept secret in NYC". Well, it shouldn't be! With all they have to offer, it should be the #1 "GO TO" store in Manhattan for all your knitting, needlepoint, and crocheting needs. Nothing else compares. I know...I have been to all of them!

Great shop. The space is gorgeous, the service friendly and the selection is vast. All different yarns, different price ranges. Great selection of needles and accessories. A tad more expensive than other shops selling similar yarns.

Extremely disappointed! I made it a point to visit this shop for certain needlework items that were featured in a magazine article. It was a long way away. The upstairs section (needlework) was not open that day. I spent a lot of time in the downstairs section where there was a group knitting and nobody asked if I needed help. After I looked around for about a half hour and brought my purchases to the counter, someone finally assisted me but then didn't give me the sale price. So another lady had to cancel out all the items and ring up again. It took entirely too long! Since I was really excited about the upstairs section, I returned a couple of days later and found nothing that was touted in the article. Again, I had to ask for help. Disappointed on two occasions, I left and did not return the next time I was in town.

Went to several stores in Manhattan. I thought this shop had a lot of nice yarns and a good selection. I didn't get much in the way of service. I was ignored for the first 20 minutes, and was unsure who worked there as everyone was knitting together on a back table. They have a large selection which was nice of mid to higher range yarns. I was specifically looking for Tilli Thomas.

I am looking for a specific needlepoint pattern for a fireside bench.

If you can send me your email address I will send you a picture of the pattern I am looking for.

Thanks
