Knitmap iPhone Updates

I just wanted to let you know that we’ve made some improvements to the iPhone version of Knitmap. It now looks more like the original site, and it has the new “Near Me” option that will automatically locate stores based on your current location.

Just in case you didn’t know, Knitmap for iPhone lets you find yarn stores in a simple, iPhone friendly display. Out and about and forget exactly where that nearby yarn store is? Just open Knitmap for iPhone and touch the Near Me button, set any other options you want, and click Search.

There’s no special address, just go to Knitmap.com on your phone’s browser. Don’t forget to bookmark Knitmap on your iPhone, or better yet add it to your home screen (I love the little icon)!

I just found your site and love it! I would love if you would make an app for Android available as well! I tried browsing to knitmap.com on my G1 and the site looks just like it does in a regular browser. I would love to be able to find the nearest yarn shops based on my current location though :)

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on all mobile devices...my kindle does not seem to be able to view the frames once I hit search. I still love the site on my computer though!

I have used Knitmap so many, many times in all of my travels and I don't know what I would do without it! Thank you soooooo much. I would love it if I could "create a shop crawl" on your site in any given area and print out the crawl showing hours, directions , etc. It would save me loads of time. I really value the site!!!!!!!!

I love the sit but would like to echo what seemd to be a theme in the previous comments. I can open the site in my browser on my blackberry, but once I hit search it doesn't function. An app would be awesome!!!!!

Yes, an app for Android would be great. I just got a HTC Tattoo for christmas, and would love to be able to use Knitmap.

Thanks for the iPhone app! I use it quite a bit.
My one complaint is that if you leave the app (such as clicking on the website link) and go back to it, the app seems to hang for a minute and then it resets itself. It would be nice to be able to reopen it and pick up where you left off. Especially if you have pulled up several yarn stores and had hopped out to look at one of their websites. Having to wait for the app to reset and then redoing your search is frustrating.

But thanks for making the app!!

Since the last blog entry dates from July 2009, I'm guessing further development on the KnitMap has ceased. Too bad. It is a very useful tool for travellers.

In case someone is still active behind the scenes, I just had the idea that adding local knitting groups to the map might be nice, too.
